Underaged Smoking Is The Best Solution

Children are anti-establishment by nature.  The good ones usually grow up gay, weird, or married to other good ones.  And when I say good, I don’t mean high quality stock.  Happy are the bad boys and girls, for theirs are the legends you hear all the time.  Tell them Santa won’t give them presents at Christmas, and their street wisdom will laugh at your naivety.

Street wisdom is an underrated virtue.  It’s the best form of defense and survival in an unpredictable world.  I grew up a rebel, and my curiousity has led me to try anything remotely against the rules.  Underaged smoking, sex, and gambling.  I had my first cigarette at 14, had my first joyful experience of a marijuana high at the fabulous age of 16, and sex started at a ripe age of 17.  Life was good, and there was nothing I could’ve wanted more back then.  On the flipside, I also experienced my first police lock-up at 15.  Heh heh.

But the crux of all these isn’t that I’m genetically pre-programmed to grow up a bad boy.  Rather, I was genetically pre-disposed to breaking norms and conventions.  A rebel and an anti-establishment hero.  Curiousity is what makes children do things, learn things, and grow up fast.  It is what childhood is all about.

Unfortunately, boys today are growing up to be girls.  Mums fret over their sons getting hurt in sports, and sons shy away from a good after-school fight like the pussies they’ll grow up to be.  And where’s the dad in this equation?  He’s busy in the outside world discovering what he missed out as a child cos he was a good boy back then, but that’s another subject.

I never fail to laugh when society constantly campaigns against underaged smoking.  No Sale Of Cigarettes To Minors is an open invitation to any self-respecting kid waiting to challenge the system.  The implication of such a policy is that if one were to smoke, one is considered a Major.  Which kid doesn’t want to be considered adult?  Which self-loving child doesn’t want to stand out from his peers and be different?

Simply put, to curtail underaged smoking, one has to simply condone selling cigarettes to minors, and advertise it as a cool activity to engage in.  With every kid in the neighbourhood or school smoking, the rebel will stop.  It’s no longer cool since it is the norm and there are no rules to break; it’s in his nature.  Suddenly it has become fashionable NOT to smoke.

Makes sense?  Sure it does.

sexual in literature

Here is a really great article about the value and meaning of sex. It nicely dovetails with what I’ve said here before.

The main point is that it is fashionable for contemporary writers to portray sex as a narcissistic and misguided attempt to escape the ennui of modern life. This trend, claims the author, is a puritanical condemnation of hopefulness.

This essay is really funny all the way through, but I’ll try to give some highlights.

In response to the charge that an obsession with the act of sex is narcissistic, the author writes

In this same essay, Wallace goes on to attack Updike and, in passing, Roth and Mailer [sexually explicit authors] for being narcissists. But does this mean that the new generation of novelists is not narcissistic? I would suspect, narcissism being about as common among male novelists as brown eyes in the general public, that it does not.

But really, the whole essay is summed up in this section, criticizing contemporary writers for their self indulgent relation to sex:

The younger writers are so self-conscious, so steeped in a certain kind of liberal education, that their characters can’t condone even their own sexual impulses; they are, in short, too cool for sex. Even the mildest display of male aggression is a sign of being overly hopeful, overly earnest or politically untoward. For a character to feel himself, even fleetingly, a conquering hero is somehow passé. More precisely, for a character to attach too much importance to sex, or aspiration to it, to believe that it might be a force that could change things, and possibly for the better, would be hopelessly retrograde. Passivity, a paralyzed sweetness, a deep ambivalence about sexual appetite, are somehow taken as signs of a complex and admirable inner life.

This does not mean though that some of authors from earlier in this century did not harbor misogynistic views about sex. They clearly did, the question though, is why we don’t look on these authors “with the same fondness as we do the inventors of the first, failed airplanes, who stood on the tarmac with their unwieldy, impossible machines, and looked up at the sky?”

What a great sentence. Damn.

So What Difference Does It Make?

Pondered about this tonight…sometimes unrequited love is the best kind of love.

Why do you ask? Quite easy to explain actually.

Unrequited love is the safest kind. No fear of rejection, disillusionment, broken confidences. Disappointment is not an option, for there is none. Your reputation remands intact along with your dignity. You don’t have to worry about your partner running off with your best friend or having sex with your brother. Do the laundry with ease ’cause you’re not coming across underwear that doesn’t belong to you nor your bitter half. Go on the internet stress free. You don’t have to worry about “accidentally” finding your honey’s email containing that spicy invite that you knew you did not send. No longer will you have to lick your wounds as you pull the knife from out your back.

Your nighttime sexual fantasies are the best, ’cause you don’t have to deal with harsh physical realities. No more disdain of small penises, yeast infections, or preferring porno over having sex with you. Finally you can write that great American novel because you’re not wasting time with boring sex.

Plus in this economy, think about the money you’ll save. Imagine never having to go over your precious minutes with your cellphone plan. Your cold hard earned cash will not be spent on some therapist, who has to hear you whine about how your ex did you wrong. Your pharmacist might get a little wee pissed off though. He or she was kinda depending on you filling in that prescription to cure you of that nasty STD you picked up along the way. Oh, and save that call to the lawyer. Guess these folks are gonna have to find another way to buy the Lexus.

Your local bartender will have to find a second job, and Jack Daniels will have to cut back on his staff. Thanks to unrequited love, you don’t have to drown your sorrows in a certain liquid proof. Yeah, those silicone enhanced strippers and steroidal go-go boys are a little miffed too. They’re gonna have to learn another skill other than lap-dancing for your tips.

Put a smile on your face, ’cause without the messy breakup, you don’t have to deal with child support! If it’s not child support, well then you don’t have to deal with being a step-parent to another annoying brat. Without the annoying brat, you don’t have deal with the annoying ex of the ex either. Another kid’s innocent has once again been saved. Hmm, sometimes this works for Fido or Fluffy as well.

When you really think of it, is heartbreak really worth the trouble? Tiger Woods hangs his head while Amy Whitehouse sings Love is a Losing Game. But wait a minute you ask, why glorify unrequited love. Isn’t it just as sad as heartbreak? Well yes and no, depends on how you look at it. Just like how a glass of water can either be half empty or half full. Why frown upon unrequited love? Does it have to make you feel so hopeless and rejected?

Look at it like this; many times we think we know the person we’re involved with, but we don’t. Truth be told, we don’t always know the truth. Especially on those who we trust to be truthful. Once we do find out the truth, the person who we once loved, cherish, and put upon a pedestal, becomes nothing more than a facade. The pedestal crumbles under the heartbreak, rarely rebuilt. At least with unrequited love, the pedestal in which you have placed your object of desire remains intact. It remains intact until you decide its time to either place someone else on that pedestal, or take it down without a embarrassing fuss.

So what difference does it make? Unrequited love isn’t necessarily bad per say. There is some advantages. It’s kinda less messy in a way. If you think you’re gonna be rejected, well hell, why bother? Think of all the advantages. His or her loss as you pine in silence. They do say the chase is better than the catch. So smile and desire from afar.

At least that’s how you console yourself.

790. Dumb Goes Beyond Blonde

We joke and credit blondes predominantly as eggheads. We miss this boat: Dumbness flows out of adolescent-minded females that carry the blight through adulthood. They fall behind growing up and can’t recover from restricted education, knowledge, and common sense.

Most women have been duped into playing male games. Belief in the use of sex for ennobling, capturing, and holding a man makes women restrict their education, knowledge, and common sense. With adolescent certainty, they ignore the important to favor the exciting.

Men seek knowledge of a woman’s body, but it’s a man’s imagination that keeps his interest focused on her:

  • The less he knows, the more he seeks. The more she’s covered, the more he wonders. The more mysterious she appears, the more interested he becomes. The more interested he becomes, the more he wants to be around her.
  • Exposed skin kills a man’s imagination, because it shifts his curiosity to those sexually suggestive or stimulating areas still unknown. Stripped down to a thong, for example, only one curiosity remains and his imagination intensifies only about copulation. And conquest kills her ultimate asset.
  • She discourages a man’s curiosity by not covering her flaws, and his interest rushes elsewhere—and not reliably to what else she can offer him.
  • Winning the heart of one man doesn’t strengthen her self-respect nearly as much as winning the hearts of several men. A man’s love is founded on his respect for a woman, and his respect floats on the foundation of her self-respect. So, the stronger her self-respect, the more intensely the man she ultimately chooses can love her.
  • Adolescent-mindedness pushes females into trying to win the heart of one man without keeping some others available for his competition.

A woman’s quality as potential mate stimulates a man’s imagination. However, it arises better from packaging than advertising, actions than words, and especially the promise he sees than the promises she makes.

What about females in Hip Hop?

Ok so the Hip Hop industry we know is very Male dominated, Even as we enter 2010 men still steal the spotlight when it comes to Rap and Hip Hop… and still portrays women in a very sexual light. But what happened to the Women who held such a dominant and empowering role within the scene? Monie Love, Queen Latifah, Salt and Pepper? These ladies where doing their thing and keeping it real in the sense of not portraying themselves as sexual objects … with the occasional acceptance of Salt and Pepper, However even they still flipped it and kept the element of self-respect in check.

Over the last 20 years the scene as far as women are concerned has changed in the mid 90’s we had artists such as Foxy Brown and Lil Kim… Now although they portrayed themselves as strong and in control they were both part of male dominated crews and seen as the girl from ‘The Firm’ or ‘Bad Boy’. Although both building up reputations of their own and cementing solid places in the Hip Hop History book’s, the stories and scandal that surrounded the two will always remain. Without denying that they are both great artists both of their image’s and lyrical content still puts them in a frame of Women who have been molded by a sexist male dominated Industry.

Following in the footsteps of some of the Original women of Hip Hop in 2002 in the UK out stepped Female MC Miss Dynamite. She blew up promoting positivity and self-respect for women. Her message was clear she would not be made to sell out and become sexually orientated to appeal to the masses she was going to do it with meaning, depth and retain her credibility… and it worked. She has created the same impact that a lot of the greats have with a short yet powerful career and her Platinum selling, Mercury prize-winning debut album entitled ‘Dig a little Deeper’ will in the eyes of many be a classic.

Whenever a female MC in the UK steps on to the scene Miss Dynamite is still the artist who they are compared to, which in 6 years says a lot about the popularity of female MC’s. Speech Debelle who was the 2009 Mercury Music prize winner comes with a flow that is classic and real giving a much-needed revamped perspective of Females through Hip Hop, Still although winning the award she is still yet to blow up, lets hope 2010 is her year.

When it comes to females not only in the UK Hip Hop Scene but on global scale the past 2 years have belonged to one woman and that is West London Born Estelle. Collaborating with such artists as Kanye West and John Legend have put our homegrown Lady on the Map and still her over all image regarding the portrayal of women is one of pure talent that simply speaks for its self.

On the other side of the spectrum and on the other side of the Atlantic we see Artists such as Trina, who’s catchphrase is ‘I’m the Baddest Bitch’. Also Miss Nicki Minaj who I personally am a huge fan of, however she fits in to the whole ‘Crew first lady’ position in Cash Money and Portrays herself as the Female lil Wayne whose style, even though selling countless amounts of records, is Vulgar to say the least! Nicki Minij brings out sex appeal and slaps you in face with it proclaiming that she is ‘Nicki Lewinski’ and lil Wayne is the ‘President’ also calling herself the ‘Barbie Bitch’. She is somewhat of a feminists Nightmare lol. Being Tipped as the 2010 Lil Kim already having a huge following before releasing her own single (Including Myself). Will she be as influential as some of the Hip Hop greats on the next generation of female’s aspiring to be in the Industry?

It seems to me that the UK when it comes to females has kept it real. Maybe it is just that we are so far behind the times and we are now only just producing our Queen Latifah’s of today but from Monie Love to Estelle we Ladies in the UK are definitely keeping it real and building up a respectable name within not just the Hip Hop Industry but the Music Industry as whole. It seems Hip Hop In America has a slightly more restricted view of women in Hip Hop and I am yet to see, and would love to see, a female American Rapper in the current day with the classic style of some of original women of the genre. If there is one out there (which I am sure there is) Let me know, after all it is Rhythmic AMERICAN Poetry! ;)

xXx Peace and Love xXx
